VISION

MISSION

The Trust applies the following principles to its activities:

 

 * It will work in a community development way to build greater appreciation and understanding of the value of heritage to Oamaru and North Otago.

 

 * It will target a high level of community involvement and participation by all age groups.

 

 * It will publicly advocate and express its opinion on matters relevant to its objects.

 

 *It will support activities and initiatives which authentically recreate experiences of the life and times of a Victorian town at work.

 

  * It will collaborate and co-ordinate activities with  other community organisations.

 

 

Preserving and developing New Zealand's most unique collection of historic buildings into a living ‘Victorian Town at Work'.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To develop Oamaru and North Otago as an iconic town and district where citizens and visitors can learn about and experience what life was like in Victorian New Zealand by:

 

  *Supporting development of the heritage estate for the social, cultural and economic well being of the community.

 

   *Upholding the highest standards of heritage planning, preservation and restoration.  

 

3. The Trust is recognised and valued as a leading facilitator of social and economic          development within the community based on heritage values and a Victorian cultural theme.

 

4.  The quality and range of experiences makes Oamaru a “must see” destination for travellers.

 

5.  Regular funding sources to be identified and secured to allow the Trust to undertake its work.

 

6. There are close, mutually influential relationships with the Waitaki District Council, the Waitaki Development Board and with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (locally and nationally).

 

7. There is a significant increase within all sectors of the local community of support for the heritage values and Victorian Cultural Theme promoted by the Trust.

THE BOARD’S STRATEGIC GOALS

 

1.   There must be a heritage development strategy for the whole of Oamaru.

 

2. North Otago and in particular Oamaru, must be recognised nationally and  internationally for community appreciation and promotion of heritage.
