THE OAMARU ORDINARY CYCLE CLUB
(O.O.C.C.)

The Victorian Wardrobe can be found at 4b Harbour Street and is open on Thursdays and Sundays 10.00 am – 4.00 pm, and at other times by appointment.

Items can be hired for a week and charges are very reasonable.  The Wardrobe is staffed by volunteers who have made many of the costumes that are available for hire. Extra help is always welcomed at the Wardrobe and sewing skills are not absolutely necessary. If you would like to know more, contact the Trust at owct@xtra.co.nz

The Oamaru Ordinary Cycle Club is committed to keeping alive the heritage of Oamaru cycling, promoting the restoration and riding of early cycles, and encouraging cycling as part of modern living.

Our annual Penny Farthing Race Days are held as part t of the Victorian Heritage Celebrations in Oamaru's Historic Precinct. For information about Penny Farthing bicycles, the race day, tours, safety cycles and vintage bicycles contact the  Club Captain,  David Wilson at  heritage.futures@xtra.co.nz

The Club’s premises are located at:

4 Wansbeck Street, Oamaru.

While the first championship cycle racing event in New Zealand was held on the 17th of April 1880 in Hagley Park in Christchurch  that city later foolishly abandoned the use of the Penny Farthing (which is also referred to as the 'High' or 'Ordinary' bicycle) for the races. Oamaru will not be making the  same mistake.
